The non-oil private sector is a key driver of growth for Bahrain and the GCC region. The last years were particularly transformative in terms of economic diversification and witnessed rapid expansion across the non-oil economy. Among the rapid growing industries is the customer service and outsourcing industry.
While still in its infancy in Bahrain the global Contact Centre Outsourcing market grew at 7-8 percent in 2013, reaching US$70-75 billion (Everest, Contact Center Outsourcing (CCO) – Annual Report 2013: Focus on Customer Experience Management)
The Contact Centre sector is the largest direct employment generator in the outsourcing industry. Drawn by this targeted employment creation, the prospect of upgrading into higher-value services, and the positive impacts on the local economy, many countries around the globe have already sought to attract Contact Centre operations. Countries such as India, Ireland, the Philippines, and Egypt tapped the services value chain by attracting FDI, establishing Contact Centres, and becoming a preferred offshore location for multinational business process outsourcing firms. Bahrain has the potential to the same and attract FDI and drive employment in Bahrain.
